Woman Arrested for Alleged Attempt to Drown Twins at Omutundungu

Omutundungu: The police in the Omusati Region have arrested a 24-year-old woman after she allegedly attempted to drown her nine-month-old twins in a pond at Omutundungu village in the Etayi Constituency on Saturday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the Namibian Police Force's Regional Commander for Omusati, Ismael Basson, in a weekend crime report, stated that the incident occurred around 16h20 when the woman allegedly threw the babies, a boy and girl, into a pond filled with water and left them there.

Basson reported that the babies were rescued by a 16-year-old boy who witnessed the woman committing the act. The babies were subsequently taken to the hospital where they spent the night before being discharged into the care of their father and aunt.

The suspect has been arrested on charges of attempted murder read with the provisions of the Combating of Domestic Violence Act. Police investigations are ongoing.
