Oshakati: Young African Football Club on Saturday secured their spot in the semi-finals of the inaugural MTC Maris Cup with a 1-0 win against FC Ongos at the Oshakati Independence Stadium.

According to Namibia Press Agency, an additional-time goal after 90 minutes of football was all that George Hummel's team needed to ensure progression to the next round of the competition, which will take place in Mariental in the Hardap region during the weekend of 15 and 16 February 2025.

Young African displayed little aggression at a challenging Oshakati Stadium, which had bumpy patches all over the field. Both teams struggled to create scoring opportunities, as the ball was played from one end of the field to the other.

In the second half, both teams made substitutions, which allowed FC Ongos to gain possession and generate shots on target. However, Young African's goalkeeper, Mata Mbemutjiua, had an excellent day in goal, keeping them at bay.

With additional time added, Young African mounted a counter-attack, which Hummel capitalised on to secure their place in the semi-finals of the inaugural MTC Maris Cup. The next match of the day will see coastal outfit Blue Waters facing UNAM FC for another spot in the semifinals.
