Gobabis: After being drawn against Royal Leopards of Eswatini in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Confederation Cup competition, Young African FC's preparations are in full swing.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the first preliminary round fixtures are set for 19-21 September (first leg), with the second leg scheduled for 26-28 September. Maleagi Ngarizemo, the team manager, confirmed to Nampa on Tuesday that the team is determined to raise the nation's flag high and make both supporters and Namibia proud.
"The club is buzzing with excitement as we prepare for this historic encounter. We understand the magnitude of the challenge, but we are fully committed to giving our absolute best on the continental stage," said the manager.
Ngarizemo noted that the Gobabis-based team's journey in the Debmarine Namibia Premiership and the MTC NFA Cup this past season had demonstrated its resilience and ambition. "We aim to carry that same fighting spirit into the CAF Confederation Cup and the 2025/26 league season," he said.
The manager admitted that their opponents, Royal Leopards FC, are largely unknown to them, as they have limited information about the team from the former Swaziland. "Currently, we don't know their playing style, key players, or tactical approach. We will do our homework thoroughly to gather all necessary details ahead of the clash," he added.
He further acknowledged that Royal Leopards FC's presence in the competition is proof enough that they are a capable side. "We respect their achievements and will not underestimate them. Our preparations will be intense, focused, and strategic to ensure we overcome the challenge they present," he stated.
Ngarizemo said the competition demands nothing but the best, and the team is ready to put in the work to ensure it advances. At present, the venue for the home game is yet to be announced, as local stadiums are not approved by CAF. "We will announce all these once arrangements are made," he said.
He then called on club supporters to rally behind the team as always. "Your unwavering support has been our driving force in our domestic success. Stay tuned for the latest updates," he said.
