Zambezi: The Zambezi Regional Football Association (ZRFA) has announced the official start date for the regional second division league, which will begin on January 31, 2026, and conclude on June 15, 2026. This announcement comes after the ZRFA held its first extraordinary meeting of 2026 to finalize the regional budget and establish a timeline for the upcoming football season.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the meeting, which took place on Saturday, had full representation from all association members. ZRFA Chairperson Ngwama Vuyalo confirmed that despite facing significant challenges, the association is committed to overcoming these obstacles to ensure a successful football season. The second division league's commencement was delayed last year due to infrastructure issues and budget setbacks but is now set to proceed with matches being played at two venues: the UNAM Field and the Katima Mulilo Sports Complex.

Vuyalo explained that utilizing two venues is a logistical strategy to complete the league within the required timeframe and to minimize match postponements due to first-division fixtures. This plan aims to maintain a consistent schedule for all 12 participating clubs.

The chairperson also called for corporate sponsorship, highlighting the importance of financial support for the long-term development of regional football. He stressed the need for funds and committed sponsors to help local clubs perform well in the Premier League, noting the region's potential with many young players already excelling at higher levels.

Additionally, Vuyalo pointed out a shortage of technical expertise, with only one CAF-accredited coach, Linnox Kanyehu, and 36 NFA-accredited coaches in the region. He emphasized the necessity for development interventions and more football academies to nurture young talent, as these numbers are significantly lower compared to other regions.
