Windhoek: A total of 536 schools in the border provinces of Cambodia have been shut down amid an ongoing border conflict with Thailand. This closure has significantly impacted both students and teachers in the region.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport announced on its official Facebook page that the shutdown has affected 130,000 students and teachers. The decision to close these educational institutions comes in the wake of armed clashes that erupted on Thursday between Cambodian and Thai soldiers over disputed border areas.
The closure of these schools underscores the severity of the tensions between the two countries, as authorities prioritize the safety of students and education staff amidst the hostilities. The situation remains tense as both nations engage in efforts to address and resolve the border dispute.
