Ace broadcaster Osei Bonsu has encouraged legendary gospel musician Esther Smith to embrace the crown of being the greatest gospel musician in Ghana’s history.

During an interview on his ‘Ekosiisen’ show on Asempa FM, OB, as he is widely known, disclosed that he subscribes to the notion that Esther Smith is the most successful gospel artiste Ghana has produced.

OB believes that Esther Smith’s repertoire of nine successful albums in a twenty-four-year career sets her apart from the crowd of gospel musicians in the country.

While OB has huge respect for other legendary musicians, he believes that Esther Smith has distinguished herself from the pack and therefore deserves the honor of being the greatest gospel musician ever.

“It’s an honour you have to wear because you’ve worked for it. You have nine albums, and almost every song on the albums was a hit, so you deserve the honour, and you have to wear it with pride.

‘To be at the top of the industry for over twenty-four years means that you’ve done incredi
ble work and deserve the accolades. You can hold yourself up against any gospel musician in the past and present. There are great musicians, but you’ve been outstanding,’ he said.

Reacting to the statement, Esther Smith downplayed the recognition, arguing that she did not want to be embroiled in a controversy over the topic.

Esther Smith explained that the focus of her work was to touch lives and draw people to God and that she takes pride in the souls she has won for God through her songs.

Esther Smith paid tribute to some great musicians preceding her, noting that their hard work and dedication to the industry paved the way for people like her.

‘This is not the first time someone has told me that, but I don’t really like the comparisons because it can get unhealthy at times. I prefer to keep my silence and allow the songs to perform the magic in people. I’m not a huge fan of the title,’ she said.

The interview on Asempa FM forms part of media engagement ahead of the Accra edition of the Esther Smith Li
ve Concert, which will be held at the Perez Dome on Friday, August 30, 2024.

A team of successful and anointed gospel singers has been lined up to celebrate the grace of God and touch the lives of the multitudes expected to be present.

The Esther Smith Live Concert is being held to honour Esther Smith, who is widely regarded as one of Ghana’s greatest gospel musicians.
