Kabul: The Afghan government's Ministry of Interior Affairs has announced the dissolution of the Interpol branch from its administrative structure, as confirmed by the ministry's spokesperson Abdul Mateen Qani.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Qani revealed the removal of the Interpol police structure from the Ministry of Interior Affairs during an interaction with local media outlet Tolonews on Sunday night. However, he did not provide specific reasons for this decision.
Earlier reports from Tolonews indicated that the leader of the Afghan government had disbanded the Interpol police structures within both the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Afghanistan became a member of Interpol on October 21, 2002, and had approximately 120 personnel in the Interior Ministry and an additional 30 in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Interpol branch in Afghanistan played a crucial role in coordinating criminal investigations and facilitating communication with other nations.
