Arms and Ammunition Seized in Herat Province of Afghanistan

Herat: Personnel of counter-terrorism have discovered a large amount of weapons and ammunition in western Afghanistan's Herat province, the Ministry of Interior Affairs said in a statement on Monday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the contrabands, which included 20 pistols, four Kalashnikovs, eight hunting arms, a large quantity of cartridges and bullets, and other illegally preserved military equipment, have been seized during operations in different districts of the province over the past six months. The statement did not provide details on whether anyone was arrested on charges of keeping illegal weapons and ammunition but noted that the military tools had been handed over to the relevant authorities.

Moreover, Afghan police have confiscated various light and heavy weaponry, as well as ammunition in the northern Samangan and western Nimroz provinces. The Afghan interim government has rounded up thousands of arms and a huge quantity of ammunition as part of efforts to stabilize the security situation across the war-ravaged country.
