Cloncurry:The Australian government has announced an additional funding of 10 million Australian dollars, equivalent to about 7 million U.S. dollars, for the upgrade of Cloncurry Airport in Queensland. This airport, located in the northeastern state of Australia, was significantly damaged by severe flooding in late 2025 and early 2026.

According to NAMPA, the funding aims to support upgrades necessary to maintain regular passenger operations and ensure continued access to nearby mining sites. This initiative was detailed in a joint statement by three federal government ministers.

The recent funding commitment follows an earlier provision of 11.5 million Australian dollars, which was jointly provided by the federal and Queensland governments. The previous funding was used for emergency repairs and flood resilience measures, allowing the airport to reopen after the flood damage.

Catherine King, the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, emphasized that the additional funding would help ensure the airport continues to support essential services. These services include aeromedical transport and mining operations, crucial for the region.

Cloncurry Airport is a vital transport hub for the region's mining, agriculture, and tourism industries. It also serves fly-in, fly-out workers employed at nearby mines, highlighting its strategic importance for the local economy.
