Avalanche Claims Lives of Two Emerald Miners in Panjshir Province

Kabul: Heavy snowfall and avalanches have resulted in the deaths of two emerald miners in the eastern Panjshir province of Afghanistan. The tragic incident was confirmed by the provincial director for Mines and Petroleum, Mohammad Qasim Amiri, who reported the fatalities on Monday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the two miners were extracting emeralds in the Hisa-e-Awal district when an avalanche struck, killing both miners instantly. This incident highlights the ongoing risks faced by workers in the region, especially during severe weather conditions.

The recent harsh weather has claimed the lives of at least six individuals in Afghanistan over the past month, as heavy snowfall and avalanches continue to affect the country. Some highways connecting Kabul to northern and central provinces have been temporarily closed due to the severe weather, causing disruptions and highlighting the challenges faced by those living and working in these areas.
