Members of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in Windhoek and Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region have confiscated biscuits allegedly baked with a substance found in cannabis.

NamPol on Tuesday issued a media statement where members of the public are cautioned to be vigilant about the biscuits which are said to be addictive and can cause an overdose when consumed in a short period.

The police through several laboratory tests detected the substance known as Tertrahydrocannabinol (THC), a pure psychoactive component of cannabis or dagga, in these biscuits.

A 23-year-old male suspect who was allegedly selling them in the streets of Windhoek on 13 June 2022 was arrested for possession, said the statement.

“A total of 103 biscuits with a street value of N.dollars 2 020 were confiscated from him, and we suspect the same biscuits have reached different towns as they were also found and confiscated in Katima Mulilo,” it added.

The police are now warning the general public to be vigilant as they come in different shapes like other biscuits on the market, as a result this makes differentiating them difficult.

It is alleged that young people and high school learners are the prime target groups for the biscuits, therefore the youth in particular are urged to refrain from buying biscuits on the street.

Police investigations into the matter continue.
