Phnom Penh: A Cambodia-Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) meeting took place in the Cambodian capital to address border issues after a recent military skirmish. The meeting was led by Lam Chea, minister in charge of Cambodia's State Secretariat of Border Affairs, alongside Prasas Prasasvinitchai, a former Thai ambassador to Cambodia and current border affairs advisor to Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the meeting occurred in response to a brief exchange of gunfire between soldiers from both countries at the Mom Bei area, also known as the Emerald Triangle, on May 28. The clash resulted in the death of a Cambodian soldier. This region is where the borders of Cambodia, Thailand, and Laos converge.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet commented on the JBC meeting on his official Facebook page, marking it as the first such meeting after a 12-year gap. During the discussions, Cambodia intends to invite Thailand to join in bringing four disputed border areas-Mom Bei, Ta Moan Thom Temple, Ta Moan Tauch Temple, and Ta Krabei Temple-to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague.

Hun Manet stated, "I would like to reconfirm to my compatriots that even if the Thai side refuses or remains silent, Cambodia will proceed it unilaterally." He added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation will send an official letter to the ICJ on Sunday, June 15, 2025, regarding these disputes.
