Bank Windhoek has raised N.dollars 2 million through its annual Bank Windhoek Cancer Apple Project, according to Jacquiline Pack, the bank’s Executive Officer of Marketing and Corporate Communication Services.

Pack made the announcement in the capital on Wednesday, saying that the projects set a record for the number of apples and apple juices sold during the 2022 project period.

The total number of apples distributed was 466 548, with 93 000 apple juices distributed.

She stated that since its first donation of N.dollars 250 000 in 2000, the Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN) has raised N.dollars 33.9 million from these projects.

“It is the most consistent demonstration that Bank Windhoek is a positive change connector and a caring organisation. We are proud of this association and will continue to raise funds for this worthy cause in the future,” Pack promised.

In his acceptance remarks, CAN Chief Executive Officer, Rolf Hansen said the project with its continued support from Namibians and Bank Windhoek, is critical in CAN achieving its goals.

Hansen stated that the challenge remains steadfast in order to ensure that medical outcomes remain hopeful, which is why Namibians must understand this disease (cancer) and both its short and long-term consequences.

“We can only have an impact on people’s lives when the entire community comes together to help those when they are in need. We celebrate and give thanks for this generous amount raised through the humble and sincere contributions of all Namibians, particularly the dedication of Bank Windhoek employees,” he said.

Executive Director of the Ministry of Health and Social Services, Ben Nangombe at the same ceremony said cancer is one of the four major non-communicable diseases (NCDs), with cervical, breast and prostate cancers ranking among the top five, and this necessitates action.

“In the fight against these deadly NCDs in the country, we must combine our efforts and pool our resources. This is one of Namibia’s largest and longest-running fundraising initiatives, in which schools, customers, corporations and other entities purchase apples to benefit the Cancer Association of Namibia. I can assure you that the funds donated will benefit the intended population,” he said.
