Windhoek: Bank Windhoek has announced that its new 13-storey headquarters, Capricorn-on-Main, has received compliance certification and is set to become operational in September 2026. This development is seen as a significant milestone in the renewal of Windhoek's Central Business District (CBD).

According to Namibia Press Agency, the bank highlighted in a media statement that the building, strategically located at the corner of Independence Avenue and Kasino Street, is one of the notable private-sector investments in the area in recent years. This project has contributed significantly to Namibia's construction sector and local economic activities.

The statement further noted that the building project represented a substantial investment in the Namibian economy, creating direct employment opportunities for over 200 individuals during its construction phase. It also supported a broader network of local contractors, suppliers, and service providers.

Bank Windhoek's Managing Director, James Chapman, emphasized that the development reflects confidence in Namibia's future and underscores the bank's commitment to revitalizing the CBD. "Capricorn-on-Main is a statement of belief in the heart of Windhoek. It reflects our commitment to our people, customers, local businesses, and the continued revitalization of the CBD," Chapman remarked.

Chapman also highlighted that the project had already made a positive impact on employment and local enterprises and will continue to stimulate new activities in the city centre.

The bank revealed that Capricorn-on-Main is expected to house approximately 350 employees. The facility will feature various modern amenities, including customer facilities, boardrooms, flexible workspaces, meeting areas, a canteen, a coffee bar, and retail services.

The increased activity anticipated with the new development is expected to enhance daily foot traffic and vibrancy in the area as employees, customers, service providers, and visitors engage with the precinct.

Bank Windhoek also noted that the relocation of its Main Branch Business Banking customer services to the new premises is aimed at enhancing the banking experience while maintaining its presence in the city centre. The development aligns with a broader vision of fostering positive change beyond the workplace, contributing to the CBD as a hub of work, service, connection, culture, and community.
