Oshakati: The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)'s Oshana Regional Commander, Commissioner Naftal Lungameni, said the recently installed closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance system in the region is expected to significantly enhance crime detection, prevention, and overall policing efficiency. Speaking at the Government Information Centre (GIC) on Monday at the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology Oshana regional office, Lungameni emphasized the crucial role of technology in fighting crime.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Lungameni stated that technology plays an essential role in enhancing efficiency and improving effectiveness in crime prevention. He highlighted that the method deployed serves as both a deterrent and an aid in solving cases faster through improved investigation techniques. The primary aim of the newly launched system is to bolster surveillance in areas with a history of criminal activity.
Lungameni explained that the objective is to provide robust surveillance of the region, with a reliable monitoring system that offers data on specific areas and crime hot spots. He added that although the system is still new, its effectiveness will be evaluated after it has been operational for a sufficient period.
The CCTV cameras have been installed in the three towns of Oshakati, Ondangwa, and Ongwediva. NamPol's CCTV surveillance project in the Oshana Region was launched on 7 November 2025 under the theme 'contemporary policing through technology.'
