Nay pyi taw: The signing ceremony for the 2025 Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Special Fund project cooperation agreement took place in Myanmar's capital, Nay Pyi Taw. Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Ma Jia and Myanmar's Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ko Ko Kyaw formalized the agreement, as detailed in a statement from the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Ma Jia emphasized at the ceremony that the 14 projects under the 2025 LMC Special Fund are designed to support Myanmar's development in various sectors, including agriculture, environmental protection, and disaster prevention. The projects also focus on science and technology, culture, and education. Ma expressed China's readiness to strengthen cooperation with Myanmar, effectively utilize the funds, and promote a China-Myanmar community with a shared future, aiming to benefit both nations' populations.
Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe, who is also a member of Myanmar's State Security and Peace Commission, acknowledged China's ongoing support. He expressed gratitude for China's contribution, noting that Myanmar appreciates the development opportunities afforded by the LMC fund. Since 2018, Myanmar has benefitted from the LMC fund across 132 projects, making it the Mekong country with the most approved projects.
