Beijing: A Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson on Wednesday urged the European Union (EU) to adopt a more objective and rational view of China, and pursue a more positive and pragmatic policy toward the country. Spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a regular press briefing when responding to the recent statements by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen concerning China-EU relations.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Mao highlighted that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship between China and the EU, underscoring its significance as a pivotal moment to build on past achievements and move forward. Mao emphasized the importance of the EU developing a truly objective and rational understanding of China to foster a more constructive policy approach.

Mao remarked that the EU should focus on rebalancing its mindset rather than the economic and trade relations between China and the EU. She expressed hope that amidst the current global volatility, the EU would collaborate with China to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation, manage differences and frictions effectively, and promote the sustained, healthy, and stable development of their relations.
