Beijing: China has called on the United States to stop its attempts to disrupt China-Latin America cooperation by sowing discord, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Monday. Guo's remarks came after a U.S. military official claimed that China is infiltrating and plundering resources in the Western Hemisphere.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Guo responded to these claims by stating that the U.S. allegations are outdated narratives that are disconnected from reality. He criticized the allegations as reflecting a Cold War mentality and a confrontational mindset within certain U.S. circles.

Guo emphasized that China has consistently respected principles such as mutual respect, equality, and mutual benefit in its cooperation with Latin American and Caribbean countries. He noted that the collaboration aligns with the needs and interests of both sides, promoting economic and social development, which has been welcomed by the countries and peoples in the region.

Guo further accused the United States of historically interfering in Latin American and Caribbean affairs, describing its actions as hegemonic and bullying. He asserted that these regions are not to be treated as anyone's backyard and that cooperation between China and Latin America should not be disrupted by any third party.

Highlighting the rights of countries in the region to choose their development paths and partners, Guo urged the United States to stop creating discord and instead contribute positively to the development of Latin American and Caribbean nations.
