Beijing: Chinese police cracked 1.739 million telecom fraud cases and arrested 366,000 suspects, including 3,442 major financiers and core members of the crime groups, during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), senior police officer Jiang Guoli said at a press conference on Wednesday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the announcement highlights a significant crackdown on telecom fraud in China, indicating the scale of law enforcement efforts in tackling such crimes. The period referred to marks the current strategic economic and social development plan outlined by the Chinese government.

The arrests, which include a large number of core members and financiers, demonstrate a comprehensive approach to dismantling the organizational structures behind these fraudulent operations. The crackdown is part of broader efforts to enhance cybersecurity and protect citizens from various forms of online and communication-based scams.
