China, Sri Lanka Celebrate Decade of Joint Scientific Research Center

Colombo: China and Sri Lanka commemorated the 10th anniversary of the China-Sri Lanka Joint Center for Education and Research at a workshop in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. The celebration highlighted a decade of collaboration between the two nations in scientific research and education.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the 10th China-Sri Lanka Joint Workshop on Climate Change and Maritime Sustainable Development was organized by the center and took place from Thursday to Friday. It drew participation from over 200 experts and scholars from China, Sri Lanka, Australia, and the Maldives. The event served as a platform to review the center's progress since its inception in 2015.

Over the past ten years, the center has facilitated collaboration between China and Sri Lanka in several critical areas, including the observation of the Indian Ocean, maritime natural disaster forecasting, safe potable water, and professional development. These efforts have strengthened the scientific ties between the two countries.

Zhu Yanwei, charge d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka, addressed the workshop attendees, emphasizing the significance of science and maritime cooperation in the China-Sri Lanka relationship. He expressed China's willingness to deepen sci-tech cooperation with Sri Lanka to benefit both nations.

The workshop also featured in-depth discussions on various topics, such as the impact of climate change on the Indian Ocean, ecosystem and environmental monitoring, and disaster prevention in coastal regions.
