Beijing: China's recent commitments and actions on climate change are significantly boosting its global credibility in this crucial area, stated Clifford Cobb, a prominent U.S. scholar specializing in sustainable development.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Cobb shared his insights during an interview with Xinhua, following an announcement by Chinese President Xi Jinping at the United Nations Climate Summit. President Xi declared that China aims to "basically establish a climate adaptive society" by 2035. This ambitious plan includes reducing net greenhouse gas emissions across the economy by 7 to 10 percent from peak levels, increasing the share of non-fossil fuels in total energy consumption to over 30 percent, and expanding wind and solar power capacity to more than six times the 2020 levels, with a target of 3,600 gigawatts.

Cobb, who serves as the vice president of the U.S. Institute for Postmodern Development of China, highlighted the global importance of addressing climate change and noted that China's leadership in this area is gaining worldwide attention. He underscored China's commitment to creating a sustainable future where both people and the planet can thrive.

Furthermore, Cobb stressed the importance of enhanced international collaboration, urging collective global efforts to combat climate change and ensure a shared future for humanity.
