Chinese FM on Meeting with U.S. Secretary of State: Strengthening Contact, Preventing Misjudgment

Beijing: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday briefed reporters on his meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, met with Rubio on Friday on the sidelines of the ASEAN Plus foreign ministers' meetings.

According to Namibia Press Agency, both sides acknowledged the significance of the China-U.S. relationship, emphasizing its global impact. Wang highlighted the shared commitment to translating the consensus reached by the two heads of state into actionable policies, ensuring that the bilateral relationship remains on a steady course without deviating, losing momentum, or leading to conflict.

Wang described the meeting as constructive, noting that both parties engaged in an equal dialogue characterized by mutual respect. He stated that the Chinese side thoroughly presented its principled positions on China-U.S. relations, which is believed to have fostered a better understanding by the U.S. side. This, Wang suggested, sets the groundwork for future diplomatic exchanges between the two nations.

He encapsulated the meeting's objectives as strengthening contact, preventing misjudgment, managing differences, and expanding cooperation.
