Juba: The 13th Chinese medical team in South Sudan made a heartwarming gesture on Saturday by donating mooncakes, powdered milk, and other gifts to the children at the Confident Children out of Conflict orphanage in Juba. This act was part of the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations, a time traditionally associated with unity and togetherness.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Robert Bida Samson, the executive director of the charity, expressed gratitude towards the Chinese doctors for their ongoing support. He emphasized that the collaboration has significantly alleviated the medical expenses of the orphanage, stating, "We are no longer facing major challenges on the issues of medicine and treatment."

The Confident Children out of Conflict center currently provides care for approximately 52 children, some of whom have sought refuge from conflicts in neighboring Sudan, Bida further explained.

Zhang Erqing, the leader of the 13th batch of the Chinese medical team, highlighted the team's commitment to regularly visiting orphanages in Juba. He mentioned that bringing mooncakes serves as a symbol of unity and conveys heartfelt wishes to the children.

In the past 12 years, a total of 180 Chinese medical workers have been stationed in South Sudan. They have treated over 80,000 patients, conducted more than 1,400 surgeries, and saved nearly 2,700 critically ill patients, according to Zhang.
