Beijing: Chinese stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.9 percent to 3,862.53 points. The Shenzhen Component Index also saw a significant rise, closing 2.05 percent higher at 13,479.43 points.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the combined turnover of the Shanghai and Shenzhen indices stood at 2.16 trillion yuan (about 303.84 billion U.S. dollars), which was an increase from 2.15 trillion yuan on the previous trading day. Shares related to glass and non-ferrous metals led the gains, while stocks related to motorbikes and coal experienced major losses.
In addition to the main indices, the ChiNext Index, which tracks China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 2.74 percent to close at 3,238.01 points on Monday.
