Wenela: The extradition of 38-year-old Chante Coetzee from Zambia to Namibia was completed on Thursday at the Wenela border post. Her extradition was facilitated by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security’s Cross Border Division, Interpol Namibia, and Interpol Zambia.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Coetzee allegedly fled Namibia to Zambia using ungazetted crossing points. She was initially expected to be handed over to the Namibian authorities on Monday, but her extradition was delayed due to pending administrative matters.

The Namibian Police Force earlier this week indicated that Coetzee allegedly hired a vehicle from Kuomboka Guesthouse and Rentals in the Zambezi Region between 24 June and 02 July 2024 to tour Namibia. However, she reportedly crossed into Zambia without the vehicle owner’s consent using ungazetted entry points. The vehicle owner filed a criminal complaint at Katima Mulilo, leading to Coetzee’s arrest in Zambia on 18 October 2024.

A recent court ruling in Zambia approved her extradition to Namibia, where she faces charges of motor vehicle theft and violations of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act, among others. Head of the Zambian Interpol delegation, Swein Mushutila, stated that Coetzee was arrested last year at the Kazungula border post, but the extradition process was prolonged due to the involvement of multiple authorities to ensure its completion.

Coetzee is expected to make her first court appearance in the Katima Mulilo District Court on Friday.
