COVID-19: Namibia records 160 new cases and nine deaths

Health and Social Services Minister, Dr Kalumbi Shangula has announced that Namibia on Thursday recorded 160 new COVID-19 cases and nine deaths from seven districts, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 3 325.

Shangula in the daily COVID-19 update on Friday said one of the deaths, from the Gobabis district, was reported as a home death.

“None of the deceased persons were vaccinated,” he added.

The new cases represented an 8.5 per cent positivity ratio and had a gender distribution of 83 females and 77 males, with the youngest being five months old and the oldest, 98 years.

Shangula said of the confirmed cases, 10 had received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine while five had received two doses.

||Kharas recorded the highest number of cases at 33 followed by Omusati with 27, Erongo with 19, Oshikoto 17, Khomas 16, Otjozondjupa 10, Oshana nine, Omaheke eight and Zambezi with seven cases. The Kavango East Region recorded six cases, while Ohangwena and Hardap recorded four cases each.

Furthermore, 287 new recoveries were announced, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 117 199.

A total of 196 038 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Thursday, while 90 526 had received two doses.
