COVID-19: Namibia records 385 new cases, eight deaths

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula on Monday announced that Namibia recorded 385 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 59 092.

The cases had a gender distribution of 158 males and 227 females between the ages of one month and 96 years.

Shangula said the country also recorded eight COVID-19 related deaths from the districts of Windhoek, Oshakati, Khorixas and Omaruru bringing the total number of deaths to 920. Of the eight deceased persons, aged between 34 and 99 years, seven are reported to have had comorbidities.

Of the new cases, Khomas recorded the highest number at 153 followed by Erongo with 74 and Otjozondjupa with 53 cases. Hardap recorded 42 cases while Kunene recorded 13. Zambezi recorded 12 cases and Kavango East nine. Oshikoto and ||Kharas recorded seven cases each, Oshana six while Omaheke, Ohangwena and Kavango West recorded five, three and one case respectively.

Among the cases, 46 are learners, 18 healthcare workers, 10 teachers and nine students.

A total 358 new recoveries were recorded bringing overall total recoveries to 53 390.

Active cases on Monday stood at 5 771 with 315 hospitalised cases of which 63 were in intensive care.

Cumulatively, 76 259 COVID-19 vaccine first doses and 11 608 second doses were administered by Monday.
