COVID-19: Namibia records 40 positive cases, two deaths

Health and Social Services Minister, Dr Kalumbi Shangula announced that Namibia on Monday recorded 38 new COVID-19 cases, two reinfections and two deaths, bringing total deaths in the country to 3 982.

In the daily update issued on Tuesday, Shangula said the cases formed part of 1 296 results and represented a 3.1 per cent positivity ratio, with a sex distribution of 21 females and 19 males aged between two and 70 years.

The Erongo Region recorded the highest number of cases at 12, followed by the Omusati Region with nine cases, Khomas eight, Kunene and Hardap three each, Zambezi two, while Oshana, ||Kharas and Oshikoto recorded one each.

Among the confirmed cases are 11 learners, two teachers and one student.

One case received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and nine cases are fully vaccinated, while 30 cases are not vaccinated, accounting for 75 per cent of the total confirmed cases.

Shangula further reported that 1 155 new recoveries were recorded, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 148 048.

The number of active cases on Monday stood at 4 872, of which 63 were hospitalised and three admitted to intensive care. Two of the hospitalised cases had received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while six are fully vaccinated. Those in intensive care are not vaccinated.

The minister also reported that by 06 February 2022, a total 421 693 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, of which 116 434 had received the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. A total of 5 188 are children aged between 12 and 17 years.

A total of 245 646 people have received two doses, thus 362 080 people had completed their vaccination, which translates to 24.6 per cent of the target population. Meanwhile, 18 774 people have received booster doses.
