Windhoek: The City of Windhoek will resume collecting overdue municipal debt through its internal resources from Monday after the expiry of its contract with RedForce Debt Management, with customers in arrears urged to make payment arrangements directly with the municipality to avoid additional charges.According to Namibia Press Agency, in a media statement issued Friday, the municipality said the winding-down period of its contract with RedForce officially ended on 31 July 2026, and no new external debt collection service provider has been appointed. The municipality will administer all arrear municipal accounts internally while the council considers the way forward.The statement emphasized that no new external debt collection service provider has been appointed. In the interim, the City will continue with debt collection activities through its internal resources while the Council evaluates future options.The municipality outlined that interest on overdue accounts will be charged at an annual rate of 2 0 per cent, along with prescribed disconnection fees, in accordance with the Municipality of Windhoek Tariffs 2026/2027 published in the Government Gazette on 01 July 2026. Effective 03 August 2026, customers with overdue municipal accounts seeking to negotiate payment arrangements must engage directly with the City's Debt and Risk Management Division.The City encourages all customers with outstanding accounts to voluntarily come forward to make suitable payment arrangements. Early engagement would help customers avoid enforcement measures, additional interest charges, and related costs.The municipality reaffirmed its commitment to responsible financial management while working with residents and businesses to facilitate sustainable debt settlement. The recovery of outstanding municipal debt is essential to safeguarding the City's financial sustainability and ensuring the continued delivery of quality municipal services to all residents.
