Windhoek: A pregnant woman and her three-year-old son who died in a vehicle accident near Kombat last Tuesday have been identified by their relatives. The Namibian Police Force's (NamPol) Community Affairs Commander for the Otjozondjupa Region, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, confirmed that the deceased are 24-year-old Beno Naimbondi Hausiku and her son, Athanasius Ngoma.

According to Namibia Press Agency, a third occupant of the vehicle, 28-year-old Frans Kwamwanya Museke, who sustained serious injuries in the crash, died in a Windhoek hospital on Thursday after being transferred there for specialized treatment. The accident occurred around 01h10 on Tuesday, approximately five kilometers southwest of the Kombat settlement.

The police officer reported that the driver allegedly struck a rabbit, lost control of the seven-seater vehicle, which then overturned and rolled several times. The vehicle had eight occupants, including the driver, and was traveling from Windhoek to Rundu at the time of the crash.

The driver and surviving passengers were initially taken to the Grootfontein State Hospital for treatment. Some were later transferred to hospitals in Windhoek and Tsumeb for further medical care. Police investigations into the accident are ongoing.
