President Hage Geingob has impressed upon the newly elected Swapo Party central committee (CC) members to always uphold and defend the party.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the elected members, Geingob said members should defend and carry out Swapo’s instructions loyally as per the oath they took.

The elected members were sworn in by the congress election Returning Officer Joshua Kaumbi, following a recount of the votes after concerns were raised about the released results on 26 November 2022. Swapo’s seventh congress took place from 24 to 28 November, and the recounted votes were announced on Saturday.

“You took the oath to uphold and defend the Swapo Party wherever Swapo is attacked, wrong or right you must defend, then you can come later on and complain that apparently we did this wrong but you must defend, we have enemies,” he urged.

Geingob further noted that the members must uphold the oath which states that they must execute their duties with honesty, loyalty and dedication, and should not divulge Swapo information.

“You are not to divulge Swapo information about what has been discussed at the politburo, central committee or Swapo offices to anybody else outside… If you have problems with Swapo, come to Swapo because you took the oath,” he warned.

The congress was held under the theme ‘Swapo Party united and marching towards social-economic development for all Namibians.’
