Otjiwarongo: The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) in the Otjozondjupa Region deployed teams on Sunday morning for the supplementary registration of voters in preparation for the regional and local authority elections scheduled for 26 November this year.

According to Namibia Press Agency, ECN's Otjozondjupa Regional Electoral Officer, Victoria Amutenya, informed that the teams are being deployed to various registration points in the region under the watchful eyes of the ECN constituency and local authority supervisors. "The registration of voters and issuance of voter cards will officially start on Monday morning at 08h00 until 19h00, and this exercise will be conducted daily on Mondays until Saturdays with Sundays set aside for the uploading of information onto the system," said Amutenya.

She said two teams from the 52 had already been deployed on Saturday, to the rural areas of Omatutura and Ondeyatupa villages in the Okakarara Constituency, situated about 350 kilometres east of Otjiwarongo. Amutenya said the teams were issued with both sensitive and non-sensitive election materials needed to print out voter cards for individuals who turned 18 this year, as well as those who changed constituencies and local authorities.

'We are also targeting the people who lost or damaged their voter cards to come as of Monday and acquire their voter cards,' said Amutenya. The region is demarcated into four clusters of Okahandja and Omatako, Otjiwarongo, together with Okakarara, Otavi and Grootfontein, while Tsumkwe Constituency is served alone, she said.

Okahandja has nine teams, Omatako has four, Otjiwarongo nine teams, Okakarara has seven, Otavi seven, Grootfontein nine and Tsumkwe with seven ECN teams, said Amutenya. These 52 ECN teams for the supplementary registration of voters, include fixed and semi-mobile teams specifically for urban areas, and are expected to complete the registration of voters on 19 August 2025.
