A 19-year-old Egyptian national at Otjiwarongo allegedly survived an armed robbery Friday morning after four suspected armed robbers stormed a shop he was tasked to look after.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha, in an interview with Nampa on Monday said the victim is stable and has been reunited with his relatives, who happen to be the owners of the shop.

Mbeha said the incident occurred Friday morning around 07h20, when four men who were allegedly armed with a gun ambushed the 19-year-old man as he was about to open the African Home Deco Shop situated in the central business district of town.

“The four men allegedly pointed a gun in his face and ordered him to continue opening the shop,” said Mbeha.

Inside the shop, the four suspects allegedly stole N.dollars 25 000 and five cellphones of which the value is still being determined, she said.

The victim was left in the shop with his hands and legs tied up with ropes, Mbeha said, adding that so far no arrest or recovery has been made.

Police investigations continue.
