Eight Killed in Coordinated Terrorist Attacks in Southwest Colombia

Bogota: Eight people were killed and 28 others injured Tuesday in a wave of terrorist attacks in southwest Colombia, local authorities confirmed. The incidents have sent shockwaves through the region, highlighting ongoing security challenges.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the latest attack took place in a rural area of Jamundi, a town in the western Valle del Cauca department, resulting in three fatalities. Jamundi mayor Paola Castillo reported that a cylinder exploded on the Guachinte Bridge, causing the devastation.

In a related attack, the head of the Colombian police force, Carlos Fernando Triana, confirmed on the social platform X that three police officers died in the city of Cali, the capital of Valle del Cauca department. Additionally, two civilians lost their lives and another 10 were injured in these coordinated attacks.

The Third Division of the Colombian National Army publicly condemned the attacks, which affected multiple towns in the southwestern departments of Colombia. The division expressed its strong support for the Colombian police, who have been directly targeted, and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens.

In response to the attacks, the army announced the deployment of additional security forces to the affected areas to reinforce security and aid in stabilizing the situation.
