A 90-year-old woman allegedly drowned in a hole filled with rainwater after it rained heavily in the Tsumkwe area Saturday night.

Namibian Police Force Detective in the Otjozondjupa Region, Chief Inspector Timotheus Gabriel, in an interview with Nampa on Monday said the deceased was identified by relatives as Cqoan Ceunta from #Otchacai village.

“Her body was discovered on the outskirts of Tsumkwe settlement by children who were searching for frogs in the shallow pools of rainwater around 12h00 on Sunday,” said Gabriel.

In a separate incident, a 21-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at Farm Hochfeld between 10h00 and 15h00 on Saturday.

The deceased was identified by relatives as Josephina Tomas.

“Her body was discovered by her relatives who followed her footprints after they found a suicide note in a house on the farm,” said Gabriel.

It is alleged that Tomas left the house and headed towards the middle of the farm Saturday morning.

Her body was later found hanging from a tree along with the electric cable she allegedly used to hang herself, said the police officer.

Police investigations in both cases continue.
