Eleven-year-old boy hit and killed by a vehicle at Oshakati

An 11-year-old boy died on the spot after he was allegedly run over by a vehicle at Oshakati in the Oshana Region on Saturday.

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) weekend crime report on Sunday said the deceased was identified as Johannes Kandiwapa, a pupil at Omagano Primary School.

“It is alleged that the 34-year-old driver of a Mercedes sedan was under the influence of alcohol, at the time of the incident and he was arrested,” it said.

In a similar incident, five-year-old Likius Nghiiwamimwe also died on the spot after he was allegedly hit by a car at Okatope village in Ohangwena Region on Friday afternoon.

The incident occurred on the Onhuno – Eenhana B10 road around 17h30 on Friday when a 49-year-old driver of a Toyota sedan hit the deceased boy who was trying to cross the road.

In a separate incident a man died after he allegedly lost control of the vehicle, he was driving causing it to overturn on the Ompundja-Eheke gravel road on Saturday morning. He was identified as Tomas Neumbo and another passenger was taken to the Oshakati Hospital for treatment.

A 48-year-old woman allegedly died after the driver of the vehicle she was travelling in lost control of the vehicle causing it to overturn some 10 kilometres outside Uis in the Erongo Region.

The incident occurred on Saturday around 07h00 on the Omaruru-Uis road and the deceased person was identified as Lisolotte Haoses.

“It is alleged that a driver of a white Nissan bakkie lost control of the vehicle and overturned, it is further alleged that the accident was contributed by a mechanical fault,” said the report.

Eight other occupants were seriously injured and were taken to the Omaruru State Hospital for treatment.

Police investigations in all matters continue.
