Epukiro: Epukiro Constituency Councillor, Pineal 'Packy' Pakarae, emphasized the urgent need for strategic initiatives to enhance the livelihoods of the Epukiro community at the official opening of the Epukiro Business and Agricultural Expo. The event, themed 'Nurturing Entrepreneurship from the Roots of Agriculture - With the Youth Spearheading the Future,' took place at the Omaueuozonjanda settlement in the Omaheke Region over the weekend.According to Namibia Press Agency, Pakarae highlighted that Epukiro holds significant potential with its diligent farmers, talented entrepreneurs, creative youth, strong women, and abundant natural resources. However, he stressed that potential must be transformed into actionable strategies that lead to economic outcomes. "We must create opportunities for our young people to acquire skills, establish businesses, enter agriculture, develop innovative ideas, and participate in value addition to become economically independent and create generational wealth," Pakarae stated .Pakarae also provided an update on agricultural projects in the region, announcing that over 200 farmers benefitted from government tractor services for ploughing between April 2025 and March 2026. Specifically, 98 farmers utilized privately subsidized tractors, while 195 received assistance from government tractors. Additionally, 16 farmers were supported by government programs to weed their gardens, and subsidized seeds were made available to farmers in Epukiro.Further support came through various schemes, such as the Dairy Value Chain Scheme, where nine farmers received 30 dairy cows, four dairy bulls, 90 bags of dairy feed, and machinery like cream separators, freezers, and pasteurizers. The Horticulture Value Chain Development Scheme aided 17 farmers with irrigation materials, seeds, and fencing materials. Meanwhile, the Poultry Value Chain Development Scheme provided seven farmers with subsidized chicken coop materials, layers, and feed.
