Ongwediva: President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on Sunday called for the expansion of the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair (OATF) Centre after demand for exhibition space this year far exceeded the available capacity. Speaking at the opening of the 25th OATF, Nandi-Ndaitwah noted that the event received 1,872 applications for exhibition space, but only 455 exhibitors could be accommodated.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the President emphasized that the success of the Ongwediva Trade Fair has surpassed the current facility's capacity, urging the Ongwediva Town Council, private sector, and relevant stakeholders to collaborate on mobilizing resources for expansion and improvement of the trade fair center. Nandi-Ndaitwah remarked on the growing significance of the fair as a crucial platform for trade promotion, enterprise development, and investment.

She highlighted that 50% of the exhibitors at this year's event are women-owned or women-led enterprises, while 30% represent youth-owned or youth-led businesses. Nandi-Ndaitwah described these statistics as indicative of entrepreneurs building livelihoods and the equal participation of women and men in the economy, showcasing the potential of Namibian businesses.

Oshana Governor Hofni Iipinge acknowledged the trade fair's role in connecting businesses, investors, and markets, stressing the importance of creating networks for sustainable economic development. He noted that the event serves as a vital link between people, opportunities, and markets.

Ongwediva Junior Mayor, Etuhole Phillemon, speaking on behalf of the youth, underscored the need to address youth unemployment and expand opportunities for young people. She expressed that the youth should be seen as an opportunity for Namibia's future growth, urging leaders to invest in youth development and enable young people to contribute actively to building the country's future.
