Ongwediva: President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on Sunday reaffirmed the government's commitment to a youth-centric investment in education and skills development. The President made these remarks while officiating at the opening of the 25th Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair (OATF).

According to Namibia Press Agency, the President emphasized that this investment is crucial for expanding skills and employment opportunities for the youth demographic, highlighting the importance of embracing emerging sectors. She advised that Namibia is entering a new chapter with the emergence of sectors such as oil and gas and encouraged identifying and leveraging these opportunities.

The President further emphasized the need for youth to acquire new skills that align with current demands, even in traditional careers such as teaching. She suggested focusing on niche educational subjects that are relevant and beneficial for Namibia's socio-economic progression.

Acknowledging the importance of a multi-sectoral approach to address the skills deficit and related economic challenges, the President called for a change in mindset. She stressed the urgency of active participation in Namibia's developmental agenda, stating that it's time to move beyond blame and focus on individual contributions to the nation's growth.

The President also commended the leadership of the Ongwediva Town Council and the OATF organizing committee for providing a platform for businesses to exhibit and establish connections within the business ecosystem. She encouraged the committee to utilize the trade fair as a tool for fostering business-to-business engagements beyond the event.
