Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash in Austin Claims Five Lives

Austin: Five people, including a child and an infant, were tragically killed in a massive 17-vehicle crash on Thursday night in the capital city of Texas. The devastating accident involved a semi-truck and occurred in the city, as reported by authorities on Friday.



According to Namibia Press Agency, the Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services confirmed that the crash involved a total of 17 individuals, with five fatalities occurring at the scene.



In a separate incident, Tropical Cyclone Jude’s passage through northern Mozambique has resulted in 14 fatalities, impacting over 100,000 residents across various provinces. This information was detailed in a preliminary report released Friday by the Mozambican government. Government spokesperson Inocencio Impissa shared that the deaths occurred mainly in the provinces of Nampula and Niassa due to collapsing walls, lightning strikes, and drowning.



Tragedy also struck in western Kenya, where a truck collided with a minibus early Friday, resulting in the deaths of 14 people. The collision happened at 3:00 a.m. local time on the busy Nakuru-Eldoret highway, as confirmed by police spokesman Michael Muchiri. Among the deceased were nine men, four women, and one child.



Meanwhile, Hamas announced its agreement to release Israeli-U.S. hostage Edan Alexander and the bodies of four other hostages. The statement was issued on Friday following a proposal from mediators on Thursday to resume negotiations. Hamas indicated that its leadership delegation submitted the response that included the agreement to release Alexander, who is a U.S. citizen, and the remains of four other dual nationals.



In India, at least three people died and nearly 30 were trapped inside a multi-storey residential building in Rajkot city, Gujarat, on Friday. The fire broke out around 10:15 a.m. on the sixth floor of the Aslantis building located on the 150-feet Ring Road. Rescue operations are currently underway to save those trapped, as confirmed by a local police officer to Xinhua over the phone.
