Kathmandu: Nepali President Ram Chandra Poudel on Monday administered the oath of office to the first three ministers of the newly-formed interim government. The televised ceremony took place at the Office of the President in Kathmandu.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Rameshore Prasad Khanal, a former finance secretary, was sworn in as the minister for finance. Kulman Ghising, who formerly served as the managing director of the Nepal Electricity Authority, will oversee the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Ministry of Urban Development. Om Prakash Aryal, a lawyer and former legal advisor to the Kathmandu mayor, will head the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
Sushila Karki, a former chief justice, was named as the prime minister of the interim government on Friday evening following KP Sharma Oli's resignation as prime minister on September 9 due to deadly protests in Kathmandu and other parts of the country. A fresh general election in Nepal has been scheduled for March 5, 2026.
