Windhoek: First National Bank of Namibia (FNB) has committed N.dollars 1.6 million to the 2026 FNB Classic Clashes, reaffirming its support for youth development and grassroots sport in Namibia. The Classic Clashes games kicked off on Wednesday.According to Namibia Press Agency, the bank in a media statement on Thursday said the sponsorship was announced during the official launch of the annual schools' sporting tournament, which brings together learners from across the country to compete in various sporting codes. The learners will participate in netball, basketball, football, and rugby.FNB Namibia Investment Head, Ziggy Muinjo, stated that the tournament remains an important platform for nurturing young talent and promoting values such as discipline, resilience, and teamwork. 'The kick-off of FNB Classic Clashes is always an exciting time for us at FNB Namibia and is marked in our calendars every single year, not only as proud sponsors, but also as passionate sports enthusiasts,' Muinjo said.He emphas ized that sport plays a vital role in empowering young people, fostering a sense of belonging, and helping to build stronger communities. 'There is something truly special about the spirit of Classic Clashes, and every year it reminds us why this platform continues to hold such an important place in Namibian school sports,' he added.Muinjo highlighted that the sponsorship demonstrates the bank's commitment to supporting Namibian youth and creating opportunities for them to excel both on and off the field. The sponsorship is supported by the FirstRand Foundation and forms part of FNB Namibia's broader efforts to uplift communities through sport and youth development initiatives.The growing popularity of the tournament has also resulted in increased interest from schools across Namibia seeking an opportunity to participate. The bank further announced that the 2026 edition will be the final year of guaranteed participation for the current group of schools involved in the competition. From 2027, both current and prospective schools will be required to apply for participation, with selections based on established criteria.The 2026 FNB Classic Clashes are expected to attract strong participation and showcase emerging sporting talent from across Namibia.
