Gibeon:Gibeon is under consideration for the development of a bottled-water production facility and a University of Namibia (UNAM) music school, as the Government aims to boost employment and economic activity in the area.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare announced these initiatives during a community engagement in Gibeon, emphasizing their potential to address youth unemployment. The proposed bottled-water project would leverage Gibeon's underground water resources, with consultations indicating feasibility involving the Environmental Investment Fund (EIF), UNAM, and other stakeholders.

The second proposal involves establishing a UNAM music school or campus in Gibeon, possibly named after the late Reverend Dr. Hendrik Witbooi. This school aims to provide opportunities for musically talented youth and contribute to preserving the town's cultural heritage.

Ngurare explained that these projects are part of a broader directive to ensure each region hosts at least one employment-generating initiative. He also mentioned progress on a mango-processing project in Katima Mulilo, with secured funding and appointed contractors, moving towards groundbreaking.

Representatives from UNAM, EIF, the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development, Agribank, and the Development Bank of Namibia visited Gibeon to discuss the requirements for these projects. Ngurare stressed the importance of community support and sought residents' input during the engagement.

In addition to these projects, the Government is addressing issues affecting businesses at Gibeon's NIDA business park, including restoring electricity after a three-week disconnection. Ngurare thanked the Gibeon Village Council for agreeing to reconnect electricity while finalizing payments and suggested transferring business parks to local authorities to enhance management.

Ngurare also assured that rental prices would remain affordable to support young people in accessing economic opportunities. Hardap Governor Riaan McNab praised the Government's engagement efforts, highlighting regional priorities such as inclusive development, youth empowerment, agriculture, and the sustainable use of natural resources.
