Okahungu:Opuwo Urban: Residents in Okahungu have been severely impacted by the loss of livestock due to heavy rain, hail, and rising river waters in the area last week.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Jamuna Ruhozu, one of the affected residents, reported losing 57 goats in the incident. Ruhozu emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that goats are crucial for their survival, providing income for food and educational needs for their children. The loss has made it challenging for his family to meet daily necessities and support their children's schooling.

Headman Inaani Tjipepa of Okahungu village described the livestock losses as a significant distress for the community, which relies heavily on animals for their livelihoods. He noted that such an event was unprecedented in the village.

Residents explained that the intense rainfall and surging river waters hindered their ability to safeguard their livestock, leading to some animals being carried away by strong currents. They continue to search nearby areas in hopes of recovering some of the missing goats.

Alpha Uzera, Secretary to the Kunene Governor's Office, stated that the office is aware of the situation in Okahungu following the heavy rains. The office has received a letter from the community and is assessing how to assist the affected families.
