Otjokavare:About 80 houses in the village of Otjokavare, located in the Sesfontein Constituency of the Kunene Region, suffered damage due to heavy winds, rain, and hail last Wednesday. The affected residents are urgently seeking assistance to repair their homes.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the chairperson of the Otjokavare Village Development Committee, Vetojao Mukuaruuze, reported that several families are now experiencing difficult living conditions, with some residents left without proper roofing. Mukuaruuze called for help from the government, organizations, businesses, and individuals to provide building materials or other necessary support.
The headman of Otjokavare village, Karipandjarere Muzuma, confirmed that while there were no casualties or injuries, the weather conditions resulted in significant damage to houses and infrastructure. A government water tank at an auction center was damaged, and the destruction of electricity poles hampered timely communication with relevant authorities. Additionally, network issues complicated the reporting of the situation.
Muzuma also mentioned the loss of seven goats due to the incident and highlighted the financial struggle residents face in covering the repair costs for their homes. He emphasized the urgent need for assistance to help restore homes and infrastructure.
Alpha Uzera, Secretary to the Kunene Governor's Office, acknowledged the damage caused by the severe weather and stated that the office is actively addressing the situation.
