Windhoek: Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare on Monday announced that the government is accelerating the development of comprehensive sports infrastructure under the sixth National Development Plan (NDP6).According to Namibia Press Agency, Ngurare, speaking at the Government Information Centre, outlined the government's efforts to address national sports needs and his role as the patron of the national football governing body. The government has begun constructing 28 basic constituency sports facilities across all 14 regions, he said.Ngurare revealed that N$10 million has been allocated to each region's dedicated bank account to immediately enhance grassroots sports infrastructure. This initiative aims to promote youth development and ensure equitable access to sports facilities.The initial sites selected include Bukalo, Usakos, Divundu, Okongo, Onesi, Otjinene, Kamanjab, Onamutai, Tsintsabis, Otavi, Aranos, Tses, A Shipena Secondary School, and Havana Secondary School. Larger projects, such as stadium upgra des in Eenhana, Nkurenkuru, and Windhoek's Independence Stadium, will proceed concurrently as part of broader presidential infrastructure initiatives.Ngurare emphasized the national effort to build and upgrade FIFA-level stadiums and community sports facilities across all constituencies, allowing local athletes to train and compete on home ground.He explained that the NDP6 outlines the construction of sports facilities as a core priority, a cause strongly supported by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah. The plan includes developing both FIFA-standard stadiums and basic community sports facilities across all 121 constituencies, with funding already secured through the line ministry.The prime minister stressed the importance of sports development for national progress, highlighting the government's commitment to removing bureaucratic obstacles swiftly.Ngurare noted his recent discussions with the Namibia Football Association concerning the infrastructure shortfall affecting national teams. Targeted interv entions to upgrade local venues, coordinated with the State and the City of Windhoek, are planned for completion by the end of the year.He emphasized the need for the national team to have home ground support and committed to significant progress in stadium rehabilitation by year-end.
