Oshikoto: Oshikoto Regional Commander, Commissioner Nangula Iifo has vowed to combat crime in the region by fostering strong partnerships with the community. Speaking to Nampa on Wednesday, Iifo emphasised that her team will prioritise Pillar 2 of the Namibian Police Force's (NamPol) strategic framework, which focuses and underscores the critical importance of building collaborative relationships with the public. "We will always engage the community to ensure that we curb crime in the region," she said.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Iifo highlighted specific crime concerns in Oshikoto, saying in June alone after taking over in May, three cases of rape involving minors, one gender-based violence (GBV) case, and five cases of assault GBV were recorded. She noted that GBV, in particular, remains a significant concern, with many incidents occurring at local cuca shops.

"The police are going to do more on public awareness, because most assaults take place at cuca shops when they drink alcohol," she said. She explained that there is a need to educate the public on the dangers of excessive alcohol use and its link to violence, noting that the police will also include targeted campaigns and increase police visibility in high-risk areas.

Iifo then reiterated her commitment to serving the community and providing assistance at all times, saying her team will rigorously enforce the law for the safety and security of all Oshikoto inhabitants. Iifo brings 31 years of experience to her new role, having joined the force over three decades ago and serving in various capacities across the country.
