Windhoek: Namibia came from a goal down to force a 1-1 draw against COSAFA defending champions Angola Thursday evening in a Group B clash at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Botswana's Orapa United-based defender, Ivan Makina Kamberipa, leapt high to score in the 90th minute, securing a point for Namibia against a 10-man Angolan side. The assist came from Ngero Katua on the left wing.
The clash saw an intense encounter between the two rivals from the outset; however, both teams failed to find the back of the net for nearly 90 minutes. The Palancas Negras, as Angola are known, were reduced to 10 men following a red card issued to Randy Nteka, a decision confirmed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
Shortly after the red card, Angola pressed forward in search of a goal. Their breakthrough came from a penalty converted by Laurindo Dilson Maria Aur©lio in the 90th minute. It appeared that Angola's dominance over Namibia would continue, but the Brave Warriors fought back, forcing a 1-1 draw and earning a valuable point before their next fixture against Malawi at the Petrus Molemela Stadium in three days' time.
Namibia will then conclude their group stage matches against Lesotho at the Toyota Stadium on 10 June.
Namibia's coach, Collin Benjamin, fielded a strong squad on Thursday. Kamaijanda Ndisiro showed composure and experience in goal, while Kamberipa, Charles Hambira (captain), Sergio Damaseb, and Ngero Katua were solid at the back. Leevi Alpheus delivered an impressive performance, linking defence and attack with sharp, decisive passes. Joslin Kamatuka made several good runs despite failing to convert a number of chances, while Bethuel Muzeu also demonstrated his attacking prowess up front.
