Munich: Bayern Munich missed an opportunity to widen its lead in the Bundesliga after being held to a 2-2 draw by bottom-placed Mainz on Sunday. Despite dominating possession early on, Bayern struggled to convert their control into clear scoring opportunities. Lennart Karl and Harry Kane both had early attempts, but it wasn't until the 29th minute that Bayern took the lead. Michael Olise set up Kane, who delivered a low cross that allowed Karl to score from close range.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Mainz, under new coach Urs Fischer, remained a threat through set pieces. Their efforts paid off just before halftime when William Boving's free kick was headed in by Kacper Potulski, leveling the score in stoppage time. Bayern had a chance to regain the lead when Serge Gnabry missed a clear opportunity, and Mainz capitalized by taking the lead in the 67th minute. Stefan Bell's long pass found Lee Jae-sung, who headed the ball past Bayern's defense to put Mainz ahead.

Bayern responded by increasing their attacking pressure, but Mainz's goalkeeper Daniel Batz consistently thwarted their efforts. Relief came for Bayern when a penalty was awarded in the 87th minute after Potulski fouled Kane in the box. Kane converted the penalty, securing his 18th league goal of the season and rescuing a point for Bayern.

The draw keeps Bayern Munich at the top of the league with 38 points from 14 matches, maintaining a nine-point lead over second-placed RB Leipzig. Mainz remains at the bottom with seven points. "We dominated the first half and had enough chances, but conceding before the break changed the momentum," Kane remarked. Fischer noted, "Taking a point in Munich is positive, even if the late penalty is frustrating."

In other matches, Borussia Dortmund, in third place, was held to a 1-1 draw by Freiburg, while Stuttgart defeated Werder Bremen 4-0.
