Kavango West: The Kavango West Regional Council has initiated a constituency community outreach programme aimed at addressing both immediate needs and long-term development goals in the region's rural communities. The programme commenced in Silikunga village located in the Mpungu Constituency and is scheduled to continue until June 19, 2025, encompassing visits to all eight constituencies within the Kavango West Region.According to Namibia Press Agency, the Director of Development Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Egidius Nambara, disclosed the council's plans to construct major water pipelines from Rundu to Mpungu, extending further to Mururwani. A canal system is also being planned to deliver clean water to remote villages. To address persistent electricity issues, the council is collaborating with suppliers to replace outdated infrastructure, particularly the ageing wooden poles that are often responsible for frequent outages.Nambara emphasized the council's intensified efforts to enhance living con ditions in rural areas through targeted initiatives focusing on sanitation, food security, and skills development. He highlighted the ongoing distribution of toilets across rural villages, with particular emphasis on areas with high concentrations of elderly populations. This approach acknowledges the specific needs of vulnerable community members who may face mobility challenges in accessing adequate sanitation facilities.Residents in the villages of Ouhomba and Mbome continue to encounter significant challenges due to the lack of basic infrastructure and services, including electricity supply, health services, and communication access. These deficiencies leave communities without reliable power, limit access to medical care, and restrict connectivity and information flow.Silikunga residents have also expressed concerns about unprofessional attitudes displayed by ministerial staff towards citizens seeking assistance in government offices, adding to the frustration of those already struggling to access es sential services.Addressing the community gathering, Kavango West Governor Verna Sinimbo reaffirmed the government's commitment to community-driven development. She urged leaders to move beyond promises towards tangible action, emphasizing that development should reach every citizen in reality, not just on paper.Sinimbo reiterated that as the constituency visits progress across the region, the message is clear: no village, household, or voice will be left behind in the pursuit of progress.
